4 ways to maintain a positive outlook towards your body before you start working out.

There comes a time in each and everyone’s life where insecurity kicks in and we do not feel good about ourselves or our body.  This phase is experienced by everyone, even those who we consider as ‘flawless’. No one is really perfect and to accept and love ourselves and our body is really important. Body insecurity is something that a lot of people go through, some on a high level whereas some on the lower level .  It is really good to think of transformations and reading articles and experiences of others and implementing the same for ourselves but along with that what is the most necessary is to love and enjoy the whole process. And for that to happen it is important that you love your body. Here are 4 ways on how you can maintain a positive attitude towards your body before you decide to transform yourself.

  1. Do not get overwhelmed and build huge expectations.

Generally when we stalk people on social media or when we read articles about body transformation, we get overwhelmed and decide to transform ourselves. There is a difference between getting motivated and getting overwhelmed. It is definitely good if we get the required motivation by looking at the pictures and reading the same. But it is important that we keep our expectations in limit and do not let it flow relentlessly.

After all “Rome was not built in a day”

It is important for us to trust the process and give time to ourselves and our body to adapt the changes.  What we humans really lack is patience. We want everything at the moment which is not always possible. So we should take baby steps and feel happy even when we make millimetre of progress.

  1. Don’t compare yourself with others.

“ Your body is yours and not anyone else’s.”

Often, we forget this very important statement and we start comparing ourselves to others around us. To compare with others is the most common human nature and almost everyone does it knowingly or unknowingly on different factors. Social media plays its role here and one of the many reasons people have developed anxiety, insecurity etc is because of how other people portray themselves on social media.  There are so many different editing apps that are used by bloggers, models, actors before they post something online. Looking at those flawless pictures, we feel that we are not enough or we question our own looks or body.

“The problem isn’t with your body, the problem is what you think of it…And what you think of yourself”

To add to this point, we often get triggered or we try to change the topic when someone comments on our body. Rather than doing this, it is essential to feel confident and develop a personality where people can’t really point out or comment something useless. Take those triggers as a way to focus on your own personal growth.

  1. Work for the change you want to see.

Getting motivated and deciding to transform or even see the slightest changes means nothing if we fail to put our thoughts or words into action.  Just like when we want something materialistic, we have to work hard for it, in order to see changes in our own body, efforts are required. Generally we act motivated and follow our workout schedules and diet properly for a few days or months but we as humans get bored so easily that we leave it midway. To stick on the plan that you have decided for yourself is really important.  Doing vigorous exercise everyday is not everyone’s cup of tea but we should all incorporate a little bit of yoga and stretching in our daily schedules.

  1. Be happy with small changes.

Generally, when we don’t get the desired results we lose hope and give up on tasks. Giving up leads to disappointment and we feel terrible. There may be a few weeks or months where your progress is not up to the mark or less than usual.  What really matters here is that you make yourself understand that it is okay to not be perfect all the time and it is okay to give a break to yourself and your body sometimes. It is okay to skip on your workout and go partying once in a while, it is okay to sometimes eat pizza, pasta etc instead of your daily salads. It is not necessary to make huge progress every week or month. Instead, be happy that you’re at least trying and not being ignorant about it.
